Our families are our first exposures to the joys and pains of relationships and being intimately connected to others. It is in our families that we often learn about what to expect from the world. As a family therapist, I believe that your family is like an ecosystem: every member of your family, your relationships, and your context, impacts the rest of the family. When one person is struggling, it can often have an impact on the entire family unit. Conversely, when the family is going through a transition together, the whole system may get thrown out of balance. These transitions are opportunities for closeness, but can also present difficulties and feel threatening to your relationship. This is where I can help.
At Golden Hour, I approach family work through a strengths-based perspective. Each of your family members is bringing something important to your family system or filling a need in some way. This might not always result in a close, happy family, like you may wish.
Although every family is unique in their needs, in therapy we may:
Identify and understand your family’s patterns
Learn about how each family member is filling a role in the family
Increase in trust, vulnerability, and positive communication
Create healthy boundaries amongst family members
Experience your family differently through family therapy exercises
