In our world today, navigating food and health can be confusing at best and damaging and destructive at worst. There is so much conflicting information and misinformation it can be hard to sort through. This kind of unclear messaging may lead you to feel shame about any decision you make around food. This confusion also probably distances you from your body and its internal signals. Perhaps you feel anxiety about your food choices and trying to do the “right” thing. You may have come to realize you could even meet the criteria for an eating disorder. This is where I can help.
At Golden Hour Therapy, we approach eating concerns from an Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size (HAES), anti-diet approach. We believe in finding balance and peace with food so that you can live a more present, values-driven life. What does this actually look like practically? Let me fill you in.

In therapy, we will empower you to value and acknowledge your emotions and build skills to regulate them in helpful ways. This could be journaling, challenging and reframing difficult thoughts, or connecting with friends.
We will honor your body and its wisdom, paying careful attention to cues around hunger, fullness, desire for movement, and need for rest. This might mean grabbing another serving of food or passing on a third cookie because your body feels satisfied. That might mean going on more walks and fewer runs or allowing yourself to enjoy more activity free from pressure or “shoulds”.
We will help you allow all foods to fit into your life, letting your body be the guide and kicking out words like “good” and “bad” to describe your energy sources. At Golden Hour we are big fans of cookies and salads (with all the yummy toppings and dressings), pasta and chicken breasts, chips and acai bowls.
We will help you acknowledge your journey as your own and feel rooted in your own sense of knowing. This can be one of the most difficult parts of recovery as you reject comparison and recognize others’ opinions about you and your life do not matter as much as your own.
At Golden Hour Therapy, you will receive specialized care. We believe in a team approach, meaning you may have other providers comprising a treatment team dedicated to your recovery and healing. Included in that team may be a medication manager, a therapist (that’s me!), a dietitian, and a medical provider. In therapy, together we will assess who should be on your team.
