Being a teenager can be really rough. Trying to navigate identity, values, school and social stress, and mental health is a lot to carry as a teen! Mental health has become less and less stigmatized over the years (yay!), but going to therapy can still be a big leap and can bring up some uncomfy emotions. Adolescents experience unique stressors and therefore need a unique therapeutic experience. This is where I can help!
If you’re a teen wondering if you should come to therapy, this message is for you: I want to give you a place for you to talk about feelings, stress, friend difficulties, family stuff, etc. I won’t judge you. I won’t try to parent you. I won’t tell you all the things you’re doing wrong. I will listen, pay attention to you, and remember important details about your life. Together, we can find ways to help you build coping skills, figure out who you are (okay, yeah, that sounds cliche), and help you gain confidence in yourself and your ability to handle hard things!
Therapy with me will look like talking, activities, and probably some feelings words. I absolutely love working with teens and enjoy their unique perspectives. They also help me stay up on all of the latest slang. I hope that in turn, I can help my adolescent clients feel seen, important, and understood. I hope I can be a sounding board with a fresh perspective that isn’t mom or dad. Teens will walk away from therapy feeling better equipped to tackle life’s problems.
Some common issues that teens come to therapy about include:
